Hello,

The public beta seems to be out there. However, which CUDA version should I choose?

http://jgopt.org/download.html

The range is from 2.2 - 5.0.

Depends on the GPU,

2.2 for pre-fermi's that are limited to Cuda22 drivers or are low on memory,
2.3 or 3.2 for pre-fermi's, 2.3 is just a tadge faster,
3.2 or 4.2 for fermi's, 4.2 is a little faster,
4.2 or 5.0 for keplars,

Note: the Cuda22 and Cuda23 builds are only for pre-Fermi's, they can not be run on Fermi's and Keplar's.

I currently run

A) x38g on 560Ti in WindowsXP / driver 285.58

and

B)
x41g on 580 + 680 in Vista... / driver 306.97

Which Cuda versions do those have?

Both the apps are Cuda32 versions:

Lunatics_x38g_win32_cuda32.exe

Lunatics_x41g_win32_cuda32.exe

For confirmation of what Cuda version those drivers support, look at their Boinc startup messages,
i did do a (incomplete) chart earlier of Cuda versions, but the subversions numbers might not be totally correct for Win XP:

Cuda20 is 177.35
Cuda22 is 185.85
Cuda23 is 190.38 WHQL
Cuda32 is 263.06 (260.99 on notebooks)
Cuda41 is 285.38 Beta, or 285.62 WHQL (not sure if it's any earlier)
Cuda42 is in the Buggy 296.17 & 295.73 drivers (i think the 295.51 driver is Cuda41), but for pracical purposes is 301.24 Beta, or 301.48 WHQL
Cuda5 preview is 302.59 dev driver, but for practical purposes is 304.48 Beta,

Noticed that 285.58 is Cuda version 4010 -> 4.1.

If driver supports Cuda 4.1.  Should the executable be Cuda 3.2 or Cuda 4.2 for optimum performance?

You will only be able to run the CUDA 3.2 version as you do not have a driver new enough to run CUDA 4.2.
